Man made canal connecting Little Trout Lake to Alder Lake. 1890-1928 |
Description |
Richard Southgate used this canal to access the Manitowish chain from his summer estate on Little Trout Lake. There was also a canal to access the Lac du Flambeau chain. Per Bud Smith, the canals were in disrepair by 1917. The Smith family used them to "portage" on canoe trips. The last passable trip was in the early 1930s. |
