3. Charley & Inez Pea's 1997 interview with Joyce Laabs of the Lakeland Times 1961-1979 - The Pea's purchased the Win-Mar tavern and seven cabins from the "Win-Mar girls" (Winnie Young and Marie Zimmerman) in 1961. By 1964 they changed the name to The Pea Patch.They sold the tavern in 1978 and by 1979 they also sold all but one of the cabins. In 1998 they sold the one remaining cabin and their home on Vance Lake to moved to Mississippi.

4. Dick Hill's Blue Spruce Resort advertisement. 4/6/1956 - Richard C. Hill purchased the Win-Mar property in 1955 and re-named it. The cabins were located on Vance Lake.

8. "Elevators For Fish" by Duane H. Kipp- an article in Field & Stream magazine 4/1932 - The article discusses the negative impact dams have on fish migration and resulting sports fishing. Several types of fish ladders had been tried unsuccessfully in the state. However, a new invention, the Barr Fish Elevator is being tried at the Rest Lake dam.

9. Entrance to the "new" Win-Mar tavern August 1948 - This building was built after the original Win-Mar (located on the east or Rest Lake side of the highway) burned down in 1945. It was located on Dam (Vance) Lake. It was later moved uphill somewhat and enlarged into a tavern with living quarters. This structure is the bones for today's Pea Patch tavern. 1946, 47 or 48 Chrysler in the image.

11. Marie Zimmerman and Winnie Young behind the Win-Mar bar serving cake to newlywed guests Alan "Jud" and Irma Judkins. 1949 - This would have been the Win-Mar tavern rebuilt after the 1945 fire, now located on Vance Lake. Attached to the ceiling are neckties-- any man that entered the Win-Mar overdressed suffered the loss of his tie. It was cut off, shame-labeled with his name and hung from the ceiling.

12. Mrs. Johnson's at the dam 1931 - The buildings were originally a logging camp below the Rest Lake dam (ca1887-1905). During the 1920s the buildings were used as rental cottages. The note on the back of the pictures implies Mrs. Johnson was the owner, not specifically stating whether she lived there or operated a resort at this location. Newspaper clippings list Mr. and Mrs. Walcott Johnson as living at Rest Lake in 1920. The cabins were later rented under the Win-Mar name which was owned by Johnson's daughter, Winnie Young.

14. Old logging camp on Vance Lake below the dam. ca 1890s-1920s - This camp was first owned by the Mississippi River Logging Company and later by the Chippewa Lumber & Boom Co., both of which were controlled by Frederic Weyerhaeusar. After river logging ended around 1906, this property sat vacant. In the 1920's it became part of the Win-Mar resort, shop and restaurant.

19. Theo Brown and children at the first Win-Mar establishment. ca mid to late1920s - Two of the children are Pete and Ann Brown. "Grandma Johnson" (Mrs. Walcott Johnson) is seated. Possibly her daughter, Winnie Young, behind her. A reminiscence by an early visitor to the area said the Win-Mar sold hot dogs and hamburgers at this first establishment.
