3. Drought Having Great Effect on Lake Levels by Michael Dunn for the Lakeland Times (Minocqua, WI) July 1976 - The article discusses how the lack of rainfall for the last two years is impacting water levels across the entire Manitowish River watershed and how the dam helps to mitigate those effects. Dunn interviews longtime dam caretaker Cal LaPorte and his father, George LaPorte. Included are pictures taken for the article. Dunn also shares a brief history of the role of the dam in river drive logging in the late 1880s- 1906

4. Four Chicago men set out to catch a monster fish on the Manitowish waters. Guide Dan Devine is mentioned. 1895 - This article, from the Inter Ocean (Chicago) paper, has some whooper fish stories, fun descriptions of the fishermen's adventure and includes sketches of the area.

5. "How Fur is Caught" 1894. A 5 part series chronicling fur trapping with Fay Buck in the Circle Lily and Turtle Lake areas. - A series of articles written by E. Hough for Forest and Stream, a weekly New York publication, titled "How Fur is Caught". The articles detail Hough's February 1894 journey accompanying pioneer and trapper Fay Buck running his fur trapping line in the Circle Lily and Turtle Lake areas. The last article includes his tales of joining Joe Blair of Plum Lake on the running of his trap line.

6. Images of Gurdon Hubbard Hamilton's fishing trip to Deer Park Lodge. September 1918 - Gurdon( of Oak Park, IL) and brother George arrived at the Powell depot, traveled to Deer Park Lodge (most likely by wagon and then boat launch), fished the chain of lakes and departed from the Rice Creek rail station. These are the fishing photos showing the lakes flooded with timber at the time. See Related Records for other photos from this trip.

10. News article about the Wisconsin DNR evaluating possible change to the Rest Lake dam operating order. October 2005 - A meeting was held with the DNR and other stakeholders to discuss timing of reservoir fill and draw down as well as rate of flows to do so. Objective is to balance competing interests of river ecology and fish spawning/stranding downstream with navigation and property damage upstream.

Published journal depicting the 350 mile canoe trip from High Lake in Boulder Junction to the Chippewa River, illustrating the historic importance of the Manitowish River and Chain of Lakes as a corridor of travel. 1926 - The canoe trip was foiled by low water and pulp mill dam operations. The journal contains key insights of conditions on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage while the Turtle Dam was under construction. Joe Ilg 's Camp, which had gained a reputation as a destination, is referenced in the journal.
