4. A report by Thos. Cram to ascertain the boundary line between "the State of Michigan and the Territory of Wiskonsin". 1840 - A report written by Captain Thos. J. Cram (aka Th. Jefferson Cram) in 1840 printed in "Message from the President of the United States in compliance with a resolution from the Senate in relation to the survey to ascertain and designate the boundary line between the State of Michigan and the Territory of Wiskonsin" . This survey was directed to be done by the 6/12/1838 act of Congress. This report includes an account of Cram's survey route, encounters with Native Americans near Lac Vieux Desert, maps, survey details and observations and his conclusions.

5. Article about traveling by canoe from Manitowish, WI to the Mississippi River. The group travels with Alexander Andrews from Manitowish, WI to the Rest Lake Dam and through the chain of lakes before heading downstream. 1905 - The clippings are from the Oshkosh Northwestern, authored by Edward B. Barr, the Northwestern Sportsman of Milwaukee. The author provides rich details of the Northwoods post Phase 1 logging and travelling the Flambeau River prior to the creation of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. He discusses old logging camps and Rest Lake dam caretakers.

6. "Birching in the Big Woods". The author recounts a 70 mile birch bark canoe route from the Land O' Lakes area to the railroad depot in Manitowish WI, passing through the Manitowish chain of lakes. 1890 - A series of four articles in Shields Magazine,written by G.O. Shields, titled "Birching in the Big Woods, detailing the author's October 1890 Northwoods fishing and hunting trip via birch bark canoe with guide E.M. Clark. The 70 mile wilderness water route started in the Land O' Lakes area and passed through Boulder Junction, Presque Isle and Manitowish Waters. The author writes about staying at a logging camp below the Rest Lake dam on their way down the Manitowish River to the train depot in Manitowish, WI. The articles discuss camping, hunting and the hardships of such an endeavor in 1890.

Jim Bokern's 1987 master thesis on "The history and primary canoe routes of the six Chippewa Bands from the Lac du Flambeau district". 1600-1900 - The canoe routes, trails, portages and Ojibwe villages are documented throughout the paper. Koller Cranberry Company and early cranberry marsh history as detailed in a 2015 interview with cranberry pioneer Betty Koller. 9/29/2015 - Betty recalls how she and husband Frank came to own a cranberry marsh and what the difficult early days were like. The Kollers sold their MW marsh to Northland Cranberries in 1996. Also included is an excerpt about cranberry farm history from a 3/15/2015 interview Betty did for Town history. Michael Dunn's brief notes regarding the history of Buck's Spider Lake Resort, Deer Park Lodge and the bridge between Manitowish and Spider Lakes. 10/2004 - Note: current day Manitowish Waters was part of the Town of Lac Du Flambeau until 1927 when the Town of Spider Lake was formed. In 1939 the name was changed to the Town of Manitowish Waters. Dunn prepared these notes for the George W. Brown Jr. Museum in LdF.
