3. Charles "Cap" Smith family pictures of a 3 day canoe trip down the Manitowish and Flambeau Rivers to Park Falls, WI. 1927 - The dam in Springstead was built ca 1925 so the Flambeau Flowage was continuing to flood in 1927. The images show the canoes paddling through flooded high ground with trees. Included in the record are excerpts from Charles "Bud" Smith Jr.'s recollections of this trip.

7. News paper clippings reporting the creation of the Turtle Flambeau dam and flooding of the flowage. 1925-1927 - The dam was constructed at the confluence of the Flambeau and Turtle Rivers. Thousands of acres were flooded to create the flowage. At the time of these articles, canoeists and fishermen found this project controversial.

Published journal depicting the 350 mile canoe trip from High Lake in Boulder Junction to the Chippewa River, illustrating the historic importance of the Manitowish River and Chain of Lakes as a corridor of travel. 1926 - The canoe trip was foiled by low water and pulp mill dam operations. The journal contains key insights of conditions on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage while the Turtle Dam was under construction. Joe Ilg 's Camp, which had gained a reputation as a destination, is referenced in the journal.
