An excerpt from the American Angler magazine about Dan Devine guiding fishing parties from the Manitowish railroad station to Presque Isle Lake, via the Manitowish chain. 1896-97 - Devine would meet the fishermen at the Rest Lake dam and boat them to Clear Lake where they would travel via foot to Papoose Lake and then boat to Presque Isle Lake.

10. Images of Gurdon Hubbard Hamilton's fishing trip to Deer Park Lodge. September 1918 - Gurdon( of Oak Park, IL) and brother George arrived at the Powell depot, traveled to Deer Park Lodge (most likely by wagon and then boat launch), fished the chain of lakes and departed from the Rice Creek rail station. These are the fishing photos showing the lakes flooded with timber at the time. See Related Records for other photos from this trip.

13. McClellan Junction newsletters - The McClellan family has been in MW since the early days of cranberry growers. Bob grew up between Alder and Little Trout Lakes and became a premier guide and outdoors man. Raising his family on Alder Lake and at his business The Junction. Bob was most well known for his expertise for walleye fishing, although was a master at catching every species of fish in the Northwoods. The Junction Newsletter is a unique outreach to the fishing community in the Northwoods using early digital publishing with the support of his sister Pat Cowles. His son Ricky continues to guide many of the same lakes as his dad. Note: this description provided by MWHS President Jim Bokern.

19. Walter and Clara Meinel's Resort on Rest Lake. 1946-1963 - Meinel's bought several 100' lots along the north west shore of Rest Lake. They built the main house first, which served as a boarding house with rooms upstairs for fisherman. Year round cabins were then built, one on each lot. In the early 1960s they began selling each of the properties to individuals for private homes. The main house was sold to the Bergland's; later their daughter Ann Evans owned the property. Other purchasers were Newmans, Bill Garreiss, Schafers.

20. William Strandberg moved to Manitowish Lake with his mother, Annie, in 1904. By 1914 he had a cottage home on the Rest Lake channel by Stone Lake. Bill passed away in 1935. - Attached is a news clipping about Bill proving his homestead, a map showing his home by Stone Lake and obituaries for he and his mother.
