3. Boating at Voss' Birchwood Resort. Henry A.Voss is driving his Chris Craft with passengers on Spider Lake in front of the resort. 1944 ca - Per Ruthie Gardner: This was her grandfather's (Henry Voss') big old Chris Craft. It had wicker furniture in it to sit on. He took guests for rides and pulled surfboards behind it. When it became too costly to maintain and operate, he donated it to a group of nuns. The passengers may be some of the girls that worked at the resort. Palmer Hanson's house is in the background- Spider Lake in Voss bay. ca 1944

4. Dedication speech given by Kay Krans at the unveiling of the historical roadside marker in Manitowish Waters on August 24, 2024. - Her speech tells the story of the FBI raid on Little Bohemia Lodge on April 22,1934 in an attempt to capture the Dillinger gang hiding out there. The historic marker commemorates the individuals wounded and killed by the gang as they made their escape.

5. Eddie Seybold preparing a meal at his and Henry A. Voss' campsite. ca 1900-1908 - Eddie Seybold and Henry A. Voss lived together in Milwaukee, WI. Eddie was getting sick from chemicals at his place of work so he moved to Manitowish Waters to be with his good friend and roommate Henry. They lived in little "hooches" and camped in the area. Eddie later moved in with Madeleine and Serafino "Suds" Morichetti on Spider Lake when Henry began building Voss' Birchwood Lodge.

7. Henry and Ruth (LaPorte) Voss 1953 - Portraits of Henry August Voss and his wife Ruth LaPorte Voss. Both were killed in a car accident in Florida, February 1958 along with their sister-in-law, Anna LaPorte.

10. Henry A. Voss camping. ca 1902-1908 - Prior to Henry A. Voss marrying Ruth LaPorte and building Voss' Birchwood Lodge, he and his friend Eddie Seybold lived in tents and camped around the Manitowish Waters area in the summer. This is one of their sites. Also see Photos Catalog #2018.2.129.

11. Henry A. Voss floating logs to his property on Spider Lake to use in building cabins and docks at Voss' Birchwood Lodge. ca 1906 - Henry A. Voss' father-in-law, Henry LaPorte, occasionally loaned Henry his team of horses to float cut logs up the Manitowish River to the chain of lakes where Henry would then pole them to his property on Spider Lake. This is the view from the bay where the resort was built. The Hennigan/McGraw cabin would be built on the point to the right in this photograph.

13. Henry A. Voss with his children, Lloyd and Audrey (Dickerson) in front of the Trails End cabin at Voss' Birchwood Lodge. ca 1913 - Henry A. Voss showing a fish to his children, Lloyd and Audrey. The cabin, Trails End, was part of Voss' Birchwood Lodge before it was sold to a private party many years later. When Henry would return to Minneapolis, MN in the winters, where he worked as an engraver for the Federal Mint, his wife, Ruth (LaPorte) and the children would move from their residence in the Lodge to this cabin as it was easier to heat. The current location of this cabin is 12930/129392 Palmer Road.
