Title |
Newspaper clippings referencing Bazil (Basil) DeCoteau, a famous Ojibwe fishing guide in the Manitowish Waters area. 1936-2006 |
Scope & Content |
DeCoteau was born in Red Cliff, WI but called Odanah, WI home for many years. The articles (with some confusing dates and names) detail his marriages to Minnie, with whom he had 5 children, Margaret Denny, and Clara Blackbird. Minnie and his children lived in Oneida, WI. DeCoteau may be the father of Earl Denny DeCoteau (see attached Oneida Tribal committee minutes page 2). Obituaries for Bazil, Minnie and their first daughter Geraldine DeCoteau Harvey are included. |
