Dolly Tirpe Remembers Manitowish Waters- a 1999 two-part Lakeland Times newspaper feature story by Joyce Laabs. 1871-1998 - Dolly recounts the story of her father Robert Loveless, an early settler and entrepreneur in the area. She shares stories and information about her husband and children as well. Included in the record is a page from her journal of recollections detailing much the same information as in the newspaper article.

11. History of Emerson Land Company sawmill in Emerson, WI from a book shared by the family. 1900- ca 1910 - Emerson Land Company was established by brothers John and David Emerson in 1900 with the purpose to buy and sell timber and farm lands in northern WI. The Town of Emerson and mill were built to salvage the timber blown down by a big 1904 tornado. In 1905 the town and mill were destroyed by a fast moving forest fire. A new mill was up and running by 1906. Emerson was located in the far south portion of Iron County, near the Price County line; about 10 miles from the Lac du Flambeau reservation. John was killed by a lightning strike while out fishing in 1909. After his death David had a difficult time managing the operation on his own.
