The articles cover the time period 1860-2007 and reflect on early resort and pioneer days. 1897-2007 - LaFave family history on Island Lake and Island Lake Resort in Manitowish Waters (1897-1967) as reported in a series of three 2007 articles in the Lakeland Times newspaper. The information for the series is drawn from resort brochures, "My Memories of Yesteryear-Life on Island Lake in the Early Days" written by Abe LaFave's son, John, as well as interviews with Abe's granddaughters Olive Johnson and Suzie Bauer. The articles cover the time period from 1860-2007 including John LaFave's reminiscence of the early pioneer and resort days.

6. Matt J. "Jim" Plunkett farm on the Manitowish River. ca 1900s - The Plunkett's moved to the farm in 1891. Included in the 1895 Town of Vaughn census for James "Jim" Plunkett. It lists 6 males and 3 females in the household but documents show only 4 children. Obituary for Mrs. M.J. Plunkett included. Mr. Plunkett "Jim" died in 1904. The three boys continuted to live on the property after their mother died. The daughter, Rosella, married Emil Wysocki and moved to Winchester, WI.

7. Peter Vance at his homestead on Vance Lake. circa mid to late 1880's - Peter Vance at his homestead on Vance Lake. He was a guide, cruiser and pioneer. He was with a group that paddled up the Chippewa River, up the Flambeau River to the Manitowish River in August 1884. Historians claim him to be the first white man to establish a residence in the Manitowish Waters area.

8. Sherman's Waystation in Powell, WI near the Powell train depot. ca early 1900s - Located at the intersection of today's Powell Road and Sandy Beach Road. The Waystation had rooms to rent, a dining room, general store and post office. L to R: Frank Sherman, Herb Sherman, Vanard Sherman (boy), Susan Pukall Sherman (on porch), William J.
