Harry and Alvena talk about their time owning Harry's Super Market in the Manitowish Waters/Boulder Junction area. He retired January 28, 1998 when the store was sold. He owned the store from 1957-1998. Harry also discusses his experiences with transporting eyes for the Lion's Eye Bank, his time hunting, fishing, trapping, and even dancing. 2. Clear Lake Grocery 1957-1958 - Owners were Charles & Myrtle Koempel per the 1958 Chamber guide. The guide for that year included an addendum for corrections post printing. The Ogles are listed as new owners of Clear Lake Grocery. Ads for both owners appeared in the 1958 guide. The 1956 Chamber guide lists Koempels as the owners. MWHS does not have a 1957 guide but, as noted above, the 1958 shows Koempels sold the grocery that year to the Ogles.

3. Clear Lake Grocery 1958-1968 - Owned by Sam & Dorothy Ogle from Madison, WI. Linked is a newspaper article talking about Sam's career. It indicates they only operated the grocery for two years. Classified for sale ads in 1964 and 1968 list Ogle as the seller. Dan and Leah (Perkins) Losby moved to town in 1957; Leah's obiturary states they ran the grocery for many years. (Possibly for Ogles?)

5. Harry's Super Market Advertisements - Harry's Super Market advertisement flyers, newspaper ads, promotional items. The advertisement depicting Harry in a grocery cart contains some history of the store and of Harry Jr. the Lakeland State Bank ad states: "When Harry took over the old Red Owl in 1957, his store was only 1,500 square feet. He's added on seven times to a total of 9,000. He also makes the best darn brats around - like, would you believe... 1,600 pounds just for the 4th of July! Besides doing all of that, plus running the store, Harry has been a volunteer fireman for 28 years, is a charter member of the Lions Club, and helped start the Eye Bank!"

8. Headquarters for Virgin Forest Park resort 1929-1935 - Built by Robert Loveless in 1929 after the family home on Alder Lake was destroyed by fire. The family lived in the back; there was a tavern and small grocery store in the front. This was the "headquarters" for resort guests. At the time the location was on Highway 10. Current address is 5190 Townline Road. In 1935 the Loveless moved this establishment to Highway 51.

10. LaPorte's first grocery store 1937-1946 - Established by George and Anna LaPorte. Expanded over the years to include gas pumps and fishing bait. Current address is 5995 County Highway W. Carlo, the family dog, was hit by cars several times.

12. Loveless' Virgin Forest Park resort complex on Highway 10 1929-1935 - This site had the main building housing the office, small store, tavern and family living quarters. Loveless also built a few cabins and a campground at this location. The bear cage can be seen in the photo. There were also cabins and a dance pavilion on Alder Lake. Current address is 5190 Townline Road. In 1935 Loveless moved this establishment and his Alder Lake sawmill to Highway 51.

13. Memories of Clear Lake with Carol Keller Minch 1922- ca 1940s - Carol recalls summers at their cottage on the north shore of Clear Lake. Original Keller property was at today's address of 12615 CTH Boulder Junction. They sold to Charles Quarles and moved south along the shore of Clear Lake to what today is 6203 and 6199 Clear View Drive Boulder Junction, just north of the portage to Big Lake.

The document discusses the Chippewa Indians, logging, resorts, tourism, summer homes, fishing, agriculture and economic and business development. Attached are two documents, both with the same text. One history has images embedded and the other is text only.
