An excerpt from the American Angler magazine about Dan Devine guiding fishing parties from the Manitowish railroad station to Presque Isle Lake, via the Manitowish chain. 1896-97 - Devine would meet the fishermen at the Rest Lake dam and boat them to Clear Lake where they would travel via foot to Papoose Lake and then boat to Presque Isle Lake.

3. Arvid Seppala photos including an ad for Seppala's Cottages on Rest Lake. ca 1930s-1954 - Arvid lived on Rest Lake, current address 13828 Ilg Road (Long's). He was a mason and a guide. He would troll with silver spoon tackle and row all around Rest Lake. A frequent customer of his was Mr. Corson (owned what is now Murphy's, 6014 Zephyr Point Lane). Arvid was in charge of the timbers at the dam to control the lake level; he went through the dam twice!

9. Famous fishing guide Chief Basil DeCoteau (Dakota) in Look magazine. June 1950 - The magazine did a section titled "Wisconsin Wonderland" featuring Vilas & Oneida County. They have misspelled "DeCoteau", "Spider Lake" refers to the name of the town before renamed Manitowish Waters. DeCoteau is Native American from the Bad River Chippewa tribe in Odanah, WI and was a famous guide in the Manitowish Waters area.
