Camp Mishike- America's First Forestry Camp for Boys is Now Established in Vilas County. 1922 - Three investors purchased 1600 acres of cut-over land in Winchester for a boys recreational camp based on the principles of forestry. Their purpose was to reforest, study nature, canoe, learn woodcraft, participate in out-of-door sports and learn camping skills.

7. Chris Caplan and his father standing in the old Koerner's Spider Lake Resort lakeside grill patio. This property was also the location of the Sydney Hills Camp for Boys. 1999 - The Caplan family owned the property next door and would clean their catch of fish on this patio as it was not used by the current owner. The location of the patio was across from the marina. Current address 13110 Spider Circle.

10. "Keego" estate on Big Lake owned by prominent Chicago lumber merchant, A. Shreve Badger 1908-1929 - Possibly the first settlement on Big Lake <1893. Thought to have been previously owned by the Laflin family from Chicago. A.S. Badger sells the summer camp in 1929 to a group of Chicago businessmen, including Laurance Armour. They rename the property "Lake Keego" club.

12. News clipping about famous actor and dancer Julia Hanks instructing at Keego Lodge in 1921. - The A.S. Badger family owned the Keego Lodge from 1908-1929 using it as a family summer "camp". In 1917 they opened Badger's Girls Camp on the property.

14. Picture and news clippings of Camp Pokegama for Girls on Echo Lake in Mercer, WI 1907-1915 - This was a summer camp that had academics and tutoring. It was associated with Kamp Keewatin for Boys, located across the lake. In 1916 this camp was combined with Camp Ancona for girls and moved to LaCrosse, WI.

An Academy was added by 1909 where the boys spent April through December in Mercer and January through most of March in Mississippi. Some clippings refer to Keewatin Camps, plural. There was a Camp Keewatin in Saugatuk, MI but may be unrelated.

18. Sidney Hill Camp for Boys on Spider Lake. 1959-1960 - The camp was located on Spider Lake, across from the marina, on the former Koerner Spider Lake Resort property. Included in this record is the 1959 camp brochure, an advertisement to auction off the old resort personal property and an ad indicating the camp was operating in 1960.
