4. A steam engine pulling cars through the woods near Winegar, WI. ca 1915 - The logging town of Fosterville was established in 1905. Upon sale to W S Winegar in 1910 it was renamed Town of Winegar. In 1955 the name was changed to Town of Presque Isle.

5. Bark Spud- an iron tool used to remove bark from felled logs. ca 1880s - 1920s - Found at the last logging camp site on Fawn Lake in Manitowish Waters. Used to remove bark from hemlock logs to be used in the tanning process.

6. Benson Lake rail line. circa 1910 - This standard U.S.G.S. topographic map was annotated by civil engineer and railroad historian James P. Kaysen to show the location of existing and defunct rail lines around the communities of Winchester and Manitowish Waters. Kaysen enhanced about 1,200 maps this way, typically drawing rail lines in red ink and adding statistical and historical information about lumber companies and railroads in the margins. This section of the map shows the Flambeau Lumber rail line on the south, south west side of MW and the spur into Benson Lake. 16. Chippewa Lumber and Boom logging camp ca 1940s - Located on the down river side of the Rest Lake dam, this logging camp was built by the Mississippi River Logging Co. in about 1888. It was sold to Chippewa Lumber and Boom some time before 1892. Both companies were owned by logging/lumber baron Frederic Weyerhauser.
