6. Five acre floating island on Rest Lake in front of Kuhnert's Northern Lights Hotel. August 1940 - The island then "wandered" over to the Joe Ilg property. The island had floated there in about 1925 as well. Joe Ilg Sr. was interested in mooring it to his property both times it landed there.

13. Joe Ilg Sr. family photos from Rest Lake ca 1902-1915 - Joe Ilg Sr. first came to Rest Lake in 1891. He married Leonore in 1898. They camped on the river at Reed's house (relatives of Leonore). They later camped on the site of the boat landing by the dam, which become the site of the Northern Lights Hotel in the late 1920s. In about 1915 they purchased their resort property down the shore to the east.

The Rest Lake floating island. 7/1964 - The picture shows the island in front of what was then the MW Skiing Skeeters water ski site, formerly Kuhnert's Northern Lights Hotel, where it had landed in the past. This may have been the sixth time the island broke free and wandered the lake. The Lakeland Times article by Martin Rayala is included in this record.
