3. "My Memories of Yesteryear: Life on Island Lake- In the Early Years" by John LaFave 1901-1973 - Anecdotes and short tales by John, son of Abe and Sarah LaFave, early pioneers in the Northwoods. Also linked is a slightly different version of these recollections titled "Stories from Island Lake" by Jack(John) and brother Charley LaFave as well as a collection of Gumps comic strips by Sidney Smith based on his experiences as a guest at LaFave's Island Lake Resort.

4. Spider Lake School building. ca 1915-1930's - This one-room school was located down Deer Park Road and was attended by children from the south end of the community. The building was moved from the lumber town of Buswell on Papoose Lake after the mill town burned in 1910.

5. Spider Lake School ca 1920s - The schoolhouse was located on Deer Park Road and often referred to as the Deer Park School. The first teacher was Albina Dulic Sleight. This buildig was moved from Buswell after most of the lumber mill town bruned down in 1910.
