1. Alvin and Lorraine Koerner will assume management of the Oneida Hotel in Rhinelander, WI. March 1951 - Koerners were the second generation to own Koerner's Spider Lake Resort in Manitowish Waters. They sold the resort in 1954. Per this clipping they were also operating the Hotel Charles dining rooms (Marshfield, WI).

4. McClellan Junction newsletters - The McClellan family has been in MW since the early days of cranberry growers. Bob grew up between Alder and Little Trout Lakes and became a premier guide and outdoors man. Raising his family on Alder Lake and at his business The Junction. Bob was most well known for his expertise for walleye fishing, although was a master at catching every species of fish in the Northwoods. The Junction Newsletter is a unique outreach to the fishing community in the Northwoods using early digital publishing with the support of his sister Pat Cowles. His son Ricky continues to guide many of the same lakes as his dad. Note: this description provided by MWHS President Jim Bokern.

6. Oscar Hanke, manager of a soft drink parlor located at the Tower Tea Room, was accosted and shot three times on Sunday night, July 27, 1930. - Authorities thought the shooting maybe be related to an ongoing slot machine "war" or possibly resulting from Hanke's changing employment. Soda fountains or parlors were popular during Prohibition, 1920 - 1933. Hanke was arrested in 1947 for gambling violations in Hurley, WI. The Tower Tea Room building was built in 1928 by Arthur and Jo Zermuehlen. They divorced in 1930 but Jo, aka Jo Bernard, continued to own it until 1944 when the Garbers purchased it.
