3. Biography of Romey Theriault 1886-1921 - Born in Canada in 1868, Theriault moved to the US in 1880 and Manitowish Waters area in 1901. He worked on the construction of the Rest Lake dam, as a logger, then a guide for Buck's resort. He tried his hand at farming on Manitowish Lake and eventually settled as the caretaker for P.D.Durant at Rest Lake Lodge. He continued on as caretaker of the property for another 21 years after Durant sold to Charles Nash.

9. Divide Resort- A Paradise for Hunters and Fishermen Who At This Resort Have All Conveniences. 7/1/1897 - Article in the New North newspaper (Rhinelander, WI). The article reviews the Divide Resort and area fishing. It also reports the Buck's intend to build another resort in Manitowish waters.

10. Government documents giving title for land in what is now Winchester and Manitowish Waters to George W. Buck & Son. 1895 and 1900 - 1895 patent was for land on the northwest end of North Turtle Lake.(T43N R5E S5 L4) 1900 indenture was for the property on Spider and Manitowish Lakes where Buck's Spider Lake Resort was located. (T42N R5E S14 L9) Buck may have homesteaded the properties as early as 1892.See attached 1896 and 1898 news clipping inferring the resorts were established prior to ownership documents.

12. Images of Buck's Spider Lake Resort ca 1897-1916 - Bucks established this resort in the late 1890s. Specifc date not clear as they may have homesteaded the property initially. The first "resort" was most likely a tent camp for fishermen. They also owned the Divide Resort on Turtle lakes.

14. John Nutter- brief history of his life and property in the Northwoods 1883-1984 - Nutters owed property along the Manitowish River at the intersection of Highway 51 and 47. In 1984 their granddaughter, Mary Burns Bates took ownership of it. In the early 1900s John was a part owner in a "halfway" house (lodging between two towns) located on the south side of the intersection of County Roads W and K.

Buck & Son resorts and Manitowish Hotel. 1896-1908 - 1893 Divide Resort and tent camps opened 1896-1901 Bucks owned the hotel in Manitowish by the depot 1900 Spider Lake Resort established (although attached 1898 news clipping indicates it existed prior to officially owned) 1908 G.W.Buck & Son dissolves and the resorts properties are divided between G.W. (George) and son Fayette. George keeps Spider Lake Resort for son Roy to manage. Fayette and wife Anna take over the Divide Resort in Winchester.

17. Pictures of The Divide Resort on the Turtle Lakes in Winchester, WI ca 1920s - Established by George W Buck and son Fayette in 1891. In 1908 George sold his interest to Fayette and wife Anna. They enhanced and operated the resort until 1917 when Fayette divorced Anna and departed for Omaha, NE with his second wife Orpha Nokes Buck. Anna Seymour Buck and son Clarence operated the resort until it sold in 1940.

20. Summer Fun at Koerner's Spider Lake Resort By JoAnn Miller - An article about the activities available at Koerner's resort over the years. As evidenced by attached newspaper clippings, the resort auditorium served as a venue for local and regional events. The resort also hosted Miss Wisconsin and her court for the visit to the Northwoods.
