3. Bakken's Cottages on "Big Rice Lake" aka Wild Rice Lake ca 1920s-1930s - Bakkens owned two resorts on Wild Rice Lake. Conrad built all the cabins. One of the resorts later became Copp's Cabins. Bakkens lost the other resort as a result of medical costs incurred caring for their daughter.

6. Biography of Conrad C. Bakken 1875-1924 - Born in Norway in 1875, Conrad moved to the US in 1904 and Arbor Vitae in 1917. Following in his father's footsteps he was a carpenter and cabinet maker until he moved to northern Wisconsin to farm and run a resort on Wild Rice Lake.

DP Act of 1948 authorized the admission of certain European World War II refugees for permanent residence.One clipping talks about Volodymr and his wife's time in a Nazi labor camp.

Included is a 1898 plat map showing the dam location downstream from Boulder Lake. ca 1890s - These images are of the logging dam located on the Manitowish River at the intersection of today's Highway K and N in Boulder Junction, WI. Referred to as the "lower" river because the "higher" dam was located upstream on Fish Trap Lake where as this dam was downstream from Boulder Lake.

16. Northern Lights Hotel owned by Henry & Sophie Kuhnert 1930-1941 - Originally built by Otto Oestreich in 1928, Kuhnert was the next to own it. Zigray's purchased the resort from Kuhnert in 1941. Included is Henry's 1959 obituary.

The journal contains key insights of conditions on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage while the Turtle Dam was under construction. Joe Ilg 's Camp, which had gained a reputation as a destination, is referenced in the journal.
