2. Charles W. and Jessie Nash owned Rest Camp on Rest Lake. 1924-1947 - They purchased the mainland from the P.D. Durant estate (1924) and Fox Island from H.E. Fox (1926). The property was used as a family retreat.

3. Chief White Thunder was at an Ojibwe summer camp on Rest Lake. ca 1840s - Journals of geologist A.B. Gray chronicle White Thunder being at Cross Lake, which is likely Rest Lake. There was an Ojibwe summer camp on Fox Island before it was separated from the peninsula. Attached is an excerpt and map from Gray's journal and a slide from a Jim Bokern 2023 presentation. 4. Dr. H. E. Fox, a dentist from Ironwood, MI, owned property and the large island on Rest Lake. ca 1903-1926 - Included is the 1903 deed, maps of the property and news clippings about the Fox family spending time at their cottage. Per 2018 interview with Charles "Bud" Smith, his father, Cap Smith, wanted to purchase the island in 1917. Mrs. Smith refused to live on an island! Fox sold the island to Charles Nash in 1924.

6. Rest Lake at Northern Lights Hotel - View of Rest Lake and Fox Island ca 1930s - H E Fox's residence on the island is visible. The photo appears to be taken from the current location of Rest Lake Park as the separation between the island and mainland can be seen. This is not possible from the hotel location next to the dam. Though postmarked 1940, this picture was probably taken in the early 1930s.
